yes, go, play, yes!! go to Hull....

The Rock: Diablo Royale (10 pm)
welcome back to the boys...

Rock N' Roll: loud, proud, and smothered in attitude... that's the jam that NYC hard rock quintet Diablo Royale kicks out. The band's lyrics cover everything from sexual innuendos to political satire, Choy explains: "We write about anything and everything, no subject is off limits for us because there is so much stuff that happens to you everyday, be it the girlfriend, the boss, parents, government or just stupid stuff like getting too drunk or having one of those horrible days at work ... those are all life experiences that everyone can relate to at some point or another."

Diablo Royale came together in 2005 when, guitarists Eric Choy and Gerard Steixner got together with drummer Mike Sankari to create a band that would encompass their idea of what rock n' roll should sound like. The three began writing and auditioning musicians for over a year when they finally met Adrian Barrios and bassist Jason "Sweet" Leaf through an ad posted on the internet. With the lineup complete the five hunkered down in a basement studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (appropriately named "The Sweatshop") and crafted their first ten songs until they were ready for wax on their self-titled debut album, released in February 2007. Taking their influences from all the best bands ranging from Aerosmith to Zep, the final result can be best described as a bombastic sonic assault on the ears that is sure to knock you into next week! When it comes to being onstage, vocalist Barrios seethes with the kind of reptilian charisma that rock fans instantly find mesmerizing. Choy's guitar heroics are complimented by Steixner's stone cold consistency while the rhythm-section interplay between Leaf and Sankari is like a knockout combination from a heavyweight champ. In a short time the band has managed to cut their teeth in the local clubs of New York and as bassist Jason Leaf puts it, "We're looking to infect the masses with our brand of rock n' roll!" Diablo Royale was featured in a cool article... read it!

The Rock: My Uncle the Wolf (11 pm)
Brooklyn boys gone bad...

"My Uncle The Wolf began with one goal: to be as dangerous and unpredictable as possible. This is most visible in the group's live shows where everything from the complete destruction of equipment, to twenty-minute improvisational jams have taken place, all while refusing to play the same set list twice.

My Uncle The Wolf have carried this idea into the writing and recording of songs as well. After spending the better part of two months isolated in their rehearsal space, the group traveled to New Orleans to record away from the monotony of their lives at home. With the help of friend and mentor Jimmy Bower (Down, EYEHATEGOD, Superjoint Ritual) who played bass and produced the debut effort, My Uncle The Wolf achieved their goal by surprising themselves at how much their own music had evolved. Musically, the group has a defined sound amidst all the chaos. The My Uncle The Wolf album has something of a classic atmosphere to it. As an album, it is merely a snapshot of perpetually transforming art. There are few groups today that this can be said about with sincerity: when listening to My Uncle The Wolf, expect the unexpected. " -M.P. Deevers learn more before they're everywhere!

The Rock: Year Long Disaster (12 midnight)
headlining, straight from the Clutch tour...!

"Anything that does not spring from tradition is plagiarized. Begin drawing and painting like the old masters; after that always do as you wish, you will always be respected" Salvador Dali

Year Long Disaster took Salvador Dali's words to heart when they began constructing the mainframe ideas that would form their fundamental musical intentions. Modifying, in their own right, the original blues models of the early 1970's southern rock movement, Year Long Disaster is more apt to play shuffles as the base backbeat and to define choruses as whichever dynamic moment of the song appeals as most memorable. This moment may manifest itself in a riff, a recurring vocal line, or in a sonic assault stemming from sheer energy. Riffs may extend past 4 bars. Lyrics may not repeat themselves. Year Long Disaster embraces the humanity and simplicity in songwriting with the ability to improvise, allowing the audience to be involved in moments that will never exist again.

This band's work is also a reflection of what they as individuals accomplish, write, and think. The pedigree of this band is complex and unusual. Lead guitarist and singer Daniel Davies is the son of Dave Davies of the Kinks. He was born in London and spent the first nine years of his life touring the world with one of the most legendary live acts of all time. At eleven, Daniel and his family moved from London to Los Angeles. Three years later his parents split, and Daniel moved in with his godfather and his family. Daniel lived there until his graduation from Hollywood High School. He then set out on his own to play music. For three years, he worked menial jobs and failed random drug tests for even more menial jobs. One random April day in 2003 while he was squatting in an apartment with the equally strung-out Sebastian Robertson he ventured into a Hollywood grocery store to buy vodka. It was there he met bass player Rich Mullins.
Mullins had been in Los Angeles four days when he encountered Davies.

Mullins had just moved from Holland, and was nurturing a gorilla-sized drug habit when he ran into Davies in the alcohol section of Pavilions. Mullins had been a founding member of the West Virginia instrumental hard rock band Karma to Burn. Karma to Burn had released three albums on Roadrunner Records, toured the world extensively and opened for such acts as Metallica and Pantera. Mullins left Karma to Burn to play in the Dallas, Texas band Speedealer. It was a feeble attempt to geographically remove himself from his addiction. In about seven months he was bandless and homeless, abandoned by Speedealer on a street corner in San Francisco. From there he took a plane back to Holland in another feeble attempt to geographically remove himself from his addictions. A couple of weeks prior to meeting Davies he had been convinced by some Dutch friends to take a CD he had recorded in Holland to some industry friends in Los Angeles. He arrived in Los Angeles only intending to stay one month.

Within a week of meeting Daniel they were inseparable friends living in a one room apartment in Laurel Canyon, drinking two fifths of vodka a day and smoking as much crack as their other friends could afford. After only a month of 'friendship' Daniel and Rich went to Music Cares Foundation and asked for help with their addictions. They were placed into CRI-Help rehab. They spent a month there together. They then spent six months in a sober living halfway house. They finally moved out back into the world, sober, in December 2003.

Eleven months later Daniel and Rich saw drummer Brad Hargreaves play live at the Scene Bar in Glendale with a band called Hours and Minutes. They were extremely impressed with his musicianship. They got his phone number and asked him if he wouldn't mind 'jamming'. They had no idea Brad was already a member of the eight-times platinum-selling group Third Eye Blind. Remarkably, Third Eye Blind had just been cast as the Kinks on the NBC show American Dreams. Hargreaves, upon learning that Daniel's father was Dave Davies, became intrigued and agreed to try a couple of practices. The trio instantly bonded and Year Long Disaster was born.

The band started gigging around locally in Los Angeles and caught the eye of producer Marc Needham (The Killers) who invited them to record a few songs at his home studio. Using the ensuing EP as a demo they pawned an old guitar, bought a van, jumped in and did three self-booked national tours building up a slew of fans. After the second tour Daniel, Rich and Brad teamed up with longtime friend and now squeaky clean Sebastian Robertson to manage their burgeoning career. He shares with Daniel his second generation rock experience as Sebastian is the son of The Band's Robbie Robertson.
Sebastian immediately got to work bringing down a bevy of A&R execs to their Los Angeles performances. Shortly thereafter, Year Long Disaster signed a record deal with Volcom Entertainment, a company that shared the band's artistic vision. They are currently in Tucson, Arizona working with famed producer/engineer Jim Waters (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, RL Burnside) recording their first album. Year Long Disaster's long-awaited debut is slated for release in September 2007. Download "It Ain't Luck" for free....

the Rock: the Walk Ons (9:00 pm)
rock the way you need it...

The Walk Ons are rock gods and their dulcet tunes, our scripture; each riff, a compelling homily; each note, an exacting commandment. Other music was put here on Earth by The Walk Ons to test our faith in rock and roll. And if you have the constitution to believe, friend, then let the Walk Ons save you from the temptations of weak rhythms.

Don their merch as vestal garments and be born again in their likeness. In return, our merciful lords of sound shall rain down beats upon the faithful like sweat from their sacred brows. None shall be passed over as each set manifests itself as a euphonious baptism . . . each album, a disc of divinity . . . and each show, a sonorous reckoning. the Walk Ons full story...

the Rock: Ava Luna (9:00 pm)
kicking off the evening....

Ava Luna sat cross-legged on top of an enormous statue of an Elephant. She had spent all morning climbing up, and now was enjoying the view as she sat squarely atop the beast's head, with each of her small hands holding up her weight against either ear.

A young boy from down the block stopped his pattering gait to stand at the Elephant's feet and gaze up at Ava, his hand shielding his eyes from the sun. "What are you doing up there?" he called. "I'm riding," she said, so quietly that the boy could scarcely hear. "Don't you know that Elephant will never move?" "Yes," Ava replied, as she clumsily uncrossed her legs and allowed them to dangle on either side of the great trunk like two delicate treebranches. more on Ava Luna...

The Rock: the Mood (9:45 pm)

The band is currently in preproduction for the next record, and continues to win over fans with their high-energy live performances.

the Mood has a website...

The Rock: Carlon (10:30 pm)
welcome back to our friends...

Carlon wants to stay focused on the future. The rock band that grew up in NJ but now calls New York City home does not want to play music for the fleeting moment or any genre in particular. They would rather create an eclectic and varied sound from which they can build and evolve over time. In October 2006, fans and newcomers alike received a taste of what the band meant with the release of "Suburban Heel," a 7-track EP offering that clearly demonstrated the wide-ranged breadth of the band's talent and musical drive. They are currently in the studio recording their third effort and first feature length LP, tentatively titled "Learn from Your Friends" and scheduled for release in November 2007.

But, truth be told, the more recent Suburban Heel EP was lucky to have been released at all. The band began tracking back in March 2006 and was on to the mixing by April. Things were going well until an engineer not associated with the sessions maliciously erased the entire EP off the studio hard drive. After much frustration, the band persevered and were able to regroup. While Carlon was able to recover only 2 of the original 4 recorded tracks, going back into the studio became a blessing. "I remember feeling like we weren't going to be able to recreate the spontaneity and off the cuff musicianship that we had the first time in. I guess everything just might happen for a reason." Needless to say, the recording process has been quite the learning experience for Carlon and has only made them stronger and more committed to their musical vision. "We learned that something that seems so natural to us actually requires a lot of hard work. Whether it's in the studio or on stage, our music is really about how many items from the kitchen we can use to create new sounds." When asked what Carlon sounds like, the band can become pretty uncomfortable. Lead guitarist Ryan McGlynn explains: "I don't know that there has been much of anything that we have listened to that hasn't influenced the songs that we have written in some way. If we hear country in what we're writing, we'll add a bit of country. If we hear something new or old, we won't hesitate to quote it in our music. For us, it's never been about trying to sound like anyone or anything in particular, just creating something that sounds good to us. Maybe then other people will like the music, too." Check out more on Carlon...

The Rock: the Crash Moderns (11:15 pm)
they opened for Bon Jovi and Lifehouse...

"...the absolute essence of flirtatious, effervescent, sublime pop music. With their fresh pop hooks and the synth high in the mix they have created an energetic, effortless and playful sound." - Blogcritics.com

The Crash Moderns officially formed on Halloween 2004. Fourteen months, almost to the day, they found themselves playing to a sold out crowd of 20,000 as the opening act for Bon Jovi at The Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey. After barely six months together as a group the New York City based pop/rock quintet, The Crash Moderns, left home on a quest to bring a new brand of music to fans all over the country. After touring the US and Canada supporting acts such as Bowling for Soup, and American Hi-Fi, The Crash Moderns landed several sold-out dates with Geffen recording artists Lifehouse, which included a night at the legendary House of Blues in Chicago. They've also had the opportunity to share the stage with bands such as the Pink Spiders, LIVE!, and The Ataris. With a sound that is often compared to the classic styles of timeless pop bands like The Cars, Elvis Costello and Cheap Trick, The Crash Moderns have music fans everywhere buzzing about their infectious melodies and undeniable hooks that will stick in your head for days. Learn more about the Crash Moderns....

The Rock: Liam and Me (12 midnight)
just signed - see them at a small club while you can!

After an intense season of label courtship, Philadelphia indie-pop four piece Liam and Me signed with Thrive Records (Sony/BMG) in December of 2006. After completing their debut album in LA, the band is touring the US and cultivating the buzz with their unique bland of uncanny pop songwriting and dynamic arrangements. If you're into hooks and rhythms, and have an affinity for The Cars, The Cure, The Police, U2, or the Killers, don't miss their set.

Album due out on Thrive Records January 2008. Liam and Me on Myspace
