the Rock: the Hypertonics (9:00 pm)
true punk is a philosophy...

The 20th century way of doing things is over and now is the chance to think and act in a new way.

It's time to rid music of the merchants and speculators who only want to make money, without genuine regard to art. We say leave them out of the equation completely, so that all who are left are the artists and the weirdos. The internet was created so that ideas and Ideals and information and feelings could be shared freely. Take the money out of it and return humanity in it's place. The free exchange of ideas and energy must continue. Money or humanity, you can't have both. As The Hypertonics, we believe in our music enough to share it with people completely. Here are 27 songs - live takes and studio tracks. Many of our friend's bands have been on record labels, ones that seem to work as hard as possible against the fans and ultimately against the bands themselves. Their songs will never be heard. There is no trust there and no curiosity within the listener anymore. All human emotion has been vetted. All that matters amongst the office-dwellers is the opening weekend cash box numbers. No thanks. We must pay for the sins of $100 concert tickets and the RIAA and $18 CDs. The greed business has overwhelmed the music business and it's time to push back at the tide. That requires a little sacrifice, and a shedding of the same greed that is being destroyed. Too many people have been too greedy for too long. The rest of us barely remember what it's like to not be looking for a payday. Maybe together we can revive the ghost limbs of "art for art's sake". The artificial barrier that commerce creates has no place in music. The Artist and the Listener are allies, and the middle men who look for that payday are the enemy. This is the chance to ignore them and to exclude them, the chance to attempt a high road. download the Hypertonics' whole catalog for free... but please consider making a donation.

The Rock: Diablo Royale (9:45 pm)
rock the way it should be....

Rock N' Roll: loud, proud, and smothered in attitude... that's the jam that NYC hard rock quintet Diablo Royale kicks out. The band's lyrics cover everything from sexual innuendos to political satire, Choy explains: "We write about anything and everything, no subject is off limits for us because there is so much stuff that happens to you everyday, be it the girlfriend, the boss, parents, government or just stupid stuff like getting too drunk or having one of those horrible days at work ...those are all life experiences that everyone can relate to at some point or another."

Diablo Royale came together in 2005 when, guitarists Eric Choy and Gerard Steixner got together with drummer Mike Sankari to create a band that would encompass their idea of what rock n' roll should sound like. The three began writing and auditioning musicians for over a year when they finally met Adrian Barrios and bassist Jason "Sweet" Leaf through an ad posted on the internet. With the lineup complete the five hunkered down in a basement studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (appropriately named "The Sweatshop") and crafted their first ten songs until they were ready for wax on the self-titled debut album, released in February 2007. Taking their influences from all the best bands ranging from Aerosmith to Zep, the final result can be best described as a bombastic sonic assault on the ears that is sure to knock you into next week! When it comes to being onstage, vocalist Barrios seethes with the kind of reptilian charisma that rock fans instantly find mesmerizing. Choy's guitar heroics are complimented by Steixner's stone cold consistency while the rhythm-section interplay between Leaf and Sankari is like a knockout combination from a heavyweight champ. In a short time the band has managed to cut their teeth in the local clubs of New York and as bassist Jason Leaf puts it, "We're looking to infect the masses with our brand of rock n' roll!" Download "Overloaded" from Diablo Royale..

The Rock: Fire Flies (10:30 pm)
release party for the new music...

There are four of us. We make music together. Sometimes our songs are about machines and robots. Sometimes they are about outer space. Sometimes they are about getting lost in other dimensions. And then sometimes they are about people who aren't sure what they're doing in this one. We know an alien when we see one.

We are a band called Fire Flies. You can be friends with Fire Flies here...

the Rock: ArcKid (11:15 pm)
(most of) Spacehog in a new project

The boys of Arckid are forging ahead into new territory. The new group formed by Langdon brothers (Christian and Royston) and fellow Brit Jonny Cragg are once again combining their talents, creating an intoxicating cocktail of their signature fraternal humor and pure, unrelenting rock. While still maintaining the rowdy, irreverent attitude that made the Leeds, England natives Royston and Jonny's former outfit, Spacehog, such a hit, Arckid is entirely original. With a rich, sexy sound that evokes the best of T. Rex, Queen, and David Bowie, NYC-based Arckid swaggers with the bravado of classic glam-rock but never loses its modern edge. Watch out.

Remember that '90s band Spacehog - the one that had that wildly popular song called In The Meantime? OK, Arckid is its spawn ... and the spawn of The Twenty Twos ... and Kid Symphony. And of the four original members of the New York-via-England band, three were brothers, but only two of those three were in Spacehog - along with the fourth guy, who wasn't their brother. And now, after one brother recently left Arckid, just two remain - the only constant in the game of musical chairs being the brother who's married to Liv Tyler. Good thing Arckid's electro-pop, which has yet to make it to disc form, isn't this complicated

This week's lineup to be posted shortly... but first

We've got a missing bag! One of our partygoers has a grey Puma gym bag that has gone AWOL. Someone out there may have picked up the wrong bag or knows someone who did. It's got little of value but there is a computer in it, so it would be great to get it back. (The computer has a thumbprint lock so it's pretty useless to someone else anyway...)

If you have any idea where it might be, or grabbed it yourself, you can contact us at RSVP (at) newyorkunderbelly.com or drop it off at Crash Mansion anonymously. No question asked, but there is a small reward for your trouble if you want it!

Thanks for the assistance!

UPDATE!

House of Fire will not appear (we'll let you know when we re-schedule...)

In their place will be our Aussie friends Lord Classic...

See you tonight!

More on Lord Classic:

Lord Classic makes your drink taste laced. It's eclectic, it’s real, it's rock, grunge, blues, indie, pop, it's durge music....it’s addictive, like pure cracoteine from the mucousedy eyes of Avuamian munchkin cats. The band’s influences span from the land Down Under to NYC. Pauly J, Chuffy, Dirty and Brown throw guitars, keys and drums into a simmering stream of heart felt lyrics that can only arise out of personal experience. You’ll be taken down fast then brought up slowly by the hairs on your neck. Find out what durge music is at www.myspace.com/lovetobuzz
