An absolute mega-lineup for you before we take a break for Uncle Sam's weekend... We'll kick off with a special show for Columbia Record's own Persephone's Bee's; follow up with the return of Overnight; introduce RunRunner to Between; and then Junta, Nemo, and FiveFour will rock you out while raising money for a good cause...
As we approach July 4th, the final three bands of the evening are raising money in support of Ethan Biggers, whose service in Iraq left him wounded and hospitalized. Whatever your political positions, supporting those injured while serving their country is always worthwhile...
Our rock and roll lineup for this week:
DJ Mako's back to spin the night away...
The basic details are:
Free admission before 11 on the Underbelly list (RSVP at rsvp@newyorkunderbelly.com ) - $5 after; otherwise, after 11, it's $10 bucks. Come early for the open bar (9-10 pm) and stay late for the buckets of beer! Crash Mansion is located at 199 Bowery - that's Bowery and Spring... click on the left for more deets.
Remember, RSVP to RSVP@newyorkunderbelly.com and we'll put you on the list....

The Rock: Kervin (9 pm)
"KERVIN might just be the best political band ever... is the best rock album I've heard allI Think I See Evil year." -- Independent Clauses.
Dedicated to the notion that rock music is born from the shadows of rebellion, New York's KERVIN is passionately re-injecting the genre with a fiery, unique sound and the spirit of revolution. Their songs draw from a range of influences that include punk and indie rock, Indian music, political poetry, hip-hop and metal, producing an incomparable sonic force that challenges corruption, the abuse of power, and citizen indifference. Click on the picture to see the latest in a new series of videos capturing the band's incendiary live show.

The Rock: Permission (10 pm) as seen in the onion
PERMISSION was formed in 2005 when guitarist and co-songwriter Alex met co-songwriter and guitar maestro Ben. They sat down, drank a mother load of scotch and sparks, and carved out a set of inspired lil' dities on their gee-tars. Soon to hop on-board the good ship PERMISSION (a band name coined after some severe computer and car trouble one of us was havin') was Boss Mags on the bass, and Ohio Dave on (and all over) the drum kit.
Like an f___n' phoenix has risen one helluva cool, stylin', harmonic an' fun band, so see you on the killing dance floor...

The Rock: Damemas (11 pm)
On a platform, in the middle of Madison Square Garden, on the second night of the RNC John called Dave. The conversation was brief but desperate. The 3-ring circus of Politics, Entertainment & Ego coupled with 17-hour workdays provided the impetus towards their standing goal. To get the fuck out of TV and Play. They mined inspiration, detonated influences, and unearthed monsters to help construct an album. When the dust settled they had found themselves with 13 giant songs and the unbelievably scary hope theyd find a singer who could match up.
Word was furiously ushered Out. Prospective singers were crushed by their inability to make neither hide, nor hair of the songs. Ian showed up at Saasquatch one night with demons for a posse and well-worn balls in tow. The welterweight sang with an amazing disregard for the knotty guitar lines and oft, an uncanny semblance of a black woman. So so wrong.
Then, the trios pick for a bassist bewildered many who knew Kevin. Most balked at the idea, many- his beloved friends. The Greek chorus predicted failure and misfortune based on Kevins unequivocal penchant for seeking Truth (usually cushioned in the highest thread count of bullshit these days). Its an ill psychosis to the untrained ear, but for the band- it became apparent this would be a secret weapon. Just you wait -just you wait. Riley entered the scene as coolly as John had met him. As one drummer exited Blacksonny Riley renewed them with a savvy talent and an ardent disposition for the Song. His Mojo was once again dispatched to steer a vessel true toward infamous Discourse. Riley took up the helm and added the deftness of which DAMEMAS was finally cast.
DAMEMAS on Record aspire to what all the Heavyweights have done, to trip themselves out. DAMEMAS Live, perform like all the Pros they work it. DAMEMAS will appeal is to the Everyman- but the strange part of everyone. DAMEMAS intend, essentially, to never to marry your daughter but to change her life for the better...but most likely for The Worse.

The Rock: Spitting Cobras (11:15 pm)
NYC has become a wasteland. In the music clubs and bars of the Lower East Side and Brooklyn, bands run through the motions as if half-asleep. Crowds nod approvingly, with the music never evoking the slightest emotion. This has become the cookie cutter snapshot of the NY music scene, except for the nights Spitting Cobras take the stage. This trio is an oasis of entertainment, a feast of fun and flash in a world of gray. Spitting Cobras are the messiahs of the NYC rock and roll scene. Blessed is their word. Holy is their song.
Spitting Cobras play with the heart and energy that made the NYC scene so vibrant in the 70s and 80s. A strange mix of blues-inspired heaviness and arena rock fantasy, Spitting Cobras mix up some of the catchiest pop-infused tunes you're likely to hear in this day and age. While their most recent recordings have begun to tell the tale of three minds with an incredible understanding of the mechanics of pop song construction, the band will probably be remembered best for their live sound. Equal parts insanity, energy, raw talent, and just plain fun, Spitting Cobras are one of the few truly great rock and roll bands calling NYC their home these days.
The Cobras took their time learning the ropes of rock and roll greatness. Drummer Kevin Kajetzke played in seminal hardcore outfit Iconoclast before picking up the bass for some tours with punk legends Merel. Bassist Alexandra Lyach thumped the bottom for rock projects alongside members of NJ rocksters Rye Coalition before being coaxed into Cobrahood by Kevin and lead guitarist and vocalist Martin Schneider. Schneider claims to have learned the art of blues guitar while locked in a Mississippi closet for his formative years, only recently regaining the sense of sight and smell. But gossips and wags somehow insistently place him at the heart of the Philadelphia music scene in the 1990s.
The band continues to rock, continues to roll, continues to write, and continues to tour the world spreading the rock gospel. Spitting Cobras refuse to stop slithering into the brains of the music-loving public, and the best antidote for their venom is to dance along and forget your worries, entranced by the sounds and sights of Spitting Cobras infectious rock and roll.
