The Rock: Jason Brody (9 pm)

Jason Brody mixes heart-on-the-sleeve sensitivity with rock 'n roll bravado to create dark, romantic, unapologetic music. His intense vocal performances, swooning dynamics, and distinctive guitar playing have drawn comparisons to everyone from Jeff Buckley to the Afghan Whigs to Coldplay. Seeing Jason Brody live is an ever changing experience, as the band (Bob van Pelt, bass; Jeff Olson, drums) is constantly rearranging and tinkering with the songs and busting out new covers, showcasing their eclectic sensibility and their love of spontaneity. Following the release of Brody's debut album, To the Quick, in March of 2004, the band has been playing all over NYC, as well as in Philly and Boston, to growing audiences. A new EP is due out in the fall of 2005. Visit www.jasonbrody.com to learn more, and to check out music, photos, reviews, etc.

The Rock: PS (10 pm)

ps is a brooklyn-based quintet comprised of ursula damm (cello, keyboards), jeff derringer (drums, programming), clint downing (bass, vocals), patrick savage (lead vocals, guitars, programming), and erich trusheim (guitars, vocals). formed in early 2002, ps regularly headlines new york and brooklyn venues including mercury lounge, southpaw, sin-é and more, as well as clubs in washington dc, philadelphia, and boston.

ps has played three consecutive cmj music marathon showcases, the 2003 south by southwest music festival in austin, texas, the 2005 motor city music conference in detroit, as well as several ASCAP showcases, for jasper coolidge's VICIOUS, and crashin' in.

ps has released a self-titled ep and a full-length album entitled 'double standards.' both charted in the top 40 on cmj's top 200. this spring, ps scored original music for an adidas television commercial that was listed in shoot magazine's top 10 soundtracks and on adcritic.com's top 5 commercials of the week.

Currently ps are writing songs for a new album and are booking fall of '05.

The Rock: the Good North (11 pm)

Mixing music, style, and attitude with what The Boston Globe calls “densely ringing electric guitars, grand melodic gestures, and a panoramic sweep of space and sound.” The Good North have taken their cues from old-school Britpop, new-school indie-rock, and a dose of hardcore bravado. The combination has put TGN onto bills with such luminaries as Ted Leo, The Dismemberment Plan, Idlewild, Grandaddy, Stellastarr*, Elefant, Ash, The Walkmen, and The French Kicks.

They rock but aren't heavy, they emote but aren't emo. When they're onstage, they are riveting, when they are offstage, they don't seem to realize it because they are still a show: a continuous, self-referential, ludicrous sideshow of alcohol, cigarettes, cocksure posing, silly banter, and genuine affection for one another No doubt – this is TGN and their new EP, Life Outside our Walls.

The Good North formed in 2001, and have previously released 2002’s Define Worth Wating EP and 2003’s An Explanation LP. TGN have been featured on over 100 college radio stations and commercial stations such as Boston’s WFNX & NYC’s K-Rock.

Check out their mention in this New York Times article!

The Rock: "Coke Dick" (9 pm)
Coke Dick - AKA... are going to Europe on tour soon. This is their last performance in New York before the trip. Get here early.
Coke Dick is very mysterious....

The Rock: the GoStation (9:45 pm)
Grounded in the slick streets and liquor-fueled venues of NYC, the GoStation consistently twists rock and pop conventions into bright new forms, echoing sonic sentiments that stretch from mid-'90s Manchester to modern-day Manhattan. Since its 2003 inception, the band has played consistently around its native metropolis, bringing its music and its universal message to the people - proving in the live setting that a melody or a beat is no more tied to its place of origin than the mind that envisions it.

The Rock: Morning Theft (10:30 pm)
Morning Theft come to "Between (A Rock And A Hard Place)" celebrating the recent release of their new CD. Their intense live show is not to be missed, and make sure to pick up a copy of their new disc."With their second release, 'The News Says It’s Raining In New York', the New York based Morning Theft have...the quiet/loud Pixies influence that is consistent throughout the album and that is one of the bands stronger aspects...Morning Theft accomplishes exactly what they should on a young sophomore release...the influence is theirs alone, as their songwriting and musicianship play host to their own collaboration. "The News Says It’s Raining In New York" is a solid album from start to finish, showcasing the bands love of layering strumming guitars, as well as their roller coaster ability to take you from quite whisper to distorted scream, while perhaps one of the strongest aspects of the album is the desire it leaves for more, and the promise it shows from a band coming into their own."-- review by Jim Pike, http://www.silentuproar.com
More on Morning Theft...

the Rock: the Murdocks (11:15 pm)
MURDOCKS released their Debut EP on Surprise Truck entertainment last year - and what a year it has been. One year and more than one hundred live performances later these indie-garage-punks from Austin, TX are in the studio recording their first LP, to be released in March of 2005. Since it's release, the MURDOCKS EP has been met with critical acclaim and has gone into regular rotation at 182 radio stations across North America - 70 of which reported high or medium rotation (pushing the release to #80 on the CMJ charts). Not bad for a band you've never heard of right? The band followed the EP's release with 3 successful national tours and 3 festival showcases (CMJ in New York, South By Southwest in Austin, and The New Music Festival in Dallas). Soon after that the band signed on with manager Kenny Vest (3 Doors Down, 12 Stones, and lots of other really terrible bands) who unknowingly paid to record a track for a split 7 inch due out on November 1 on New York City's Cant Afford Em Records. With press, radio, and tour promotion in place MURDOCKS prepare for the release of their debut album (In stores nationally on April 19), and 4th national tour to follow.
