The Rock: the Neon Calm (from Boston) (9 pm)

Now in their fifth year of making music together, Boston's The Neon Calm have released one album, My Perfect Muse (2002) and their follow-up album, One More Rocket Summer, is due in a few months. Playing stages from coast to coast, the band has turned on more and more people to their unique mix of hypnotic melody and glorious noise. For fans of good rock music, The Neon Calm provide an excess of loud power chords and catchy choruses, while the lyrically minded appreciate the depth and intelligence behind the wall of sound.

The Rock: ZO2 (9:45 pm)

ZO2 – featuring brothers Paulie Z (vocals, guitar) and David Z (vocals, bass guitar) and Joey Cassata (drums, vocals) – is enjoying a unique position in what may be the “new-model” of the music industry with artists creating their own success on their own terms until they find – or make - the perfect situation. However, with the obvious resurgence of interest in rock ‘n roll and bands like The Darkness, Jet, and Velvet Revolver leading the revival, the major labels are beginning to take notice. Certainly, the members’ individual musical achievements are noteworthy: David as the bassist with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts as well as the East Coast holiday touring company of the enormously successful Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Joey with the Las Vegas-based company of the Blue Man Group and Paulie has been well received regionally as the front man for several popular NYC-based bands.Musically speaking, ZO2 is an exciting blend of influences, melding the the funk and swagger of the 70's with modern arrangements, harmonies and lyrics. The trio has that rare gift that combines instantly catchy melodies and hooks with forceful, dazzling technical skills. The added interest, however, lies in Paulie and David’s impressive vocal arrangements, trading off on leads and creating distinctive harmonies. Quite simply, the perfect blending of their voices is something only genetics can create. And every once in a blue moon, true talent is rewarded with an incredible opportunity. In the summer of 2004, ZO2’s moon turned blue when they earned the opening slot for the KISS and Poison tour. An outstanding achievement for any young band, the story is made more amazing by the fact that the tour was secured solely due to the trio’s impressive, independently released debut album “Tuesdays & Thursdays”. The thrill of a relative unknown opening for such a legendary act as KISS is outweighed only by the possibility of platinum success that position so often fulfills. The tour was a huge success garnering new fans at every stop. ZO2 is now excited to get back on the road to visit those fans again in a more intimate club atmosphere. And what does ZO2 mean? Clearly, it’s the formula for rock ‘n roll.

The Rock: Part Arson (formerly the last) (11:30 pm)

PART ARSON is a new band out of NYC featuring Gregg, Mike and Sergio from Run Like Hell, Mark from Tear Us Apart and Pete from Out of Nowhere. They play hard rock. Every time these guys show up they bring a mob, drink like bikers, and rock real hard. Why the name change? The band recently was forced to change its name from The Last to Part Arson, after lawyers for an LA band sent them a cease-and-desist order. How very punk rock.

The Rock: Royal Playboy Cartel (just back from Europe!) 11:15 pm

Just back from sold-out dates in Europe with Judas Priest and Robert Plant, RPC, a Brooklyn-based hard rock band is Melody meets mayhem. Evocative and raw rock-n-roll. Layer upon layer of dissonance, build ups and harmonies. Band members Giovanni, and brothers Walter and Eric grew up together in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. They started playing together in High School and called themselves “Driven”. At that time, they mainly played local NYC clubs. It was when the band added their drummer, Joe, to the band that they felt they had “defined” their sound. Soon after that, they were chosen to play Ozzfest with Tool and Slayer in europe followed by iFest a benefit concert (25,000 people) later that year. RPC is currently gigging in the tri-state area while writing and recording their new CD and gearing up to return to Europe this summer for this year's Monsters of Rock festival. www.royalplayboycartel.com

The Rock: Kilgore Trout (10 pm)
We want to be just like Kilgore Trout when we grow up. KT is one of the few bands to have played every venue Between (a Rock and a Hard Place) has ever been held - we just keep havin' em back - they're that much fun. Energetic and Replacements-esque, their enthusiasm is as contagious as their tunes. And the lead singer is named Jeremy - you know they have to be cool.

The Rock: the Ergs (10:45 pm)
On the eve of 2000, Mikey Yannich, Jeffrey Schroeck, and Joe Keller decided to get their high school punk band back together for a new year’s eve basement party/show in Jersey City, NJ. Their drummer, the fourth member couldn’t make it, so they opted to play the show as a three piece, with Mike shifting from guitar to drums (yet maintaining his lead vocal duties.) The trio belted out their brand of pop, punk, and hardcore to a pretty good drunken crowd response. All members thought they may have something going. Two months and many bad monikers later, The Ergs were born.Since then The Ergs have honed sound to a full speed buzzsaw – a coked up whirling dervish shouting songs about girls, the Simpsons, and other xxxxx. Their rock solid musicianship, high energy live shows, and songwriting abilities have all been sharpened to a In the summer of 2000, rock mentors Dirt Bike Annie brought The Ergs on their first semi-national tour for three weeks. Since then, The Ergs have become an insatiable tour machine. They toured two weeks in both 2002 and 2003, and a total of 8 weeks in 2004 (six of which were a cross country tour in the summer) all the while playing countless local shows in New Jersey and New York’s basements, bars, and rec halls. The Ergs released their first full length record this summer titled “dorkrockcorkrod” and have since been on the lips of just about everyone in the underground punk scene. “dorkrockcorkrod” received glowing reviews from major zines including Razorcake, Amp, Punk Planet, Shredding Paper and Jersey Beat. Maximum Rock n Roll proclaimed, “Fans of retro power pop and fun punk gotta get this!” This comes from a zine that is not known for its aversion to poppier forms of punk rock. Razorcake recently acknowledged The Ergs by doing a 4-page interview with the band and putting them on the cover of their #23 issue.Outside of the underground press, The Ergs are still at work. In the summer of 2004, they recorded a 23 second hardcore song for use in a commercial “spot” on the ever hip Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. The name of the band can also be spotted in the backgrounds of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” and “Sealab 2021”.In the future, The Ergs plan on doing what they’ve always done: play as many shows as they can, release great records, and have a hell of a time in the process.

The Rock: Dirt Bike Annie (11:30 pm)
At the top of 1996, singer/guitarist Adam Rabuck and bassist Dan Paquin recorded material for Dirt Bike Annie's first 7" in an NYU dormroom. Adam put the record out on his own label, Richie Records later that year. That was the end of Richie Records, but the official start for Dirt Bike Annie. In 1997 singer/guitarist Jeanie Lee joined the band. Since then, DBA have had 11 releases on independent labels, the most recent of which was 2003's full-length CD Show Us Your Demons on Seattle's Dirtnap Records. DBA has done three coast-to-coast US tours, numerous regional tours and made appearances at festivals such as South by Southwest, CMJ, Midwest Music Fest and Dewey Beach Music Fest. With the addition of drummer Tommy Vinton (formerly of the amazing pop powerhouse Too Much Joy) they look forward to bringing their infectiously catchy songs and electrifying live show to even more fans nationwide.

The Rock: the Walkup (9 pm)
The Walkup is a group of four music-addicted young men hailing from England, Philly, Boston, and Manhattan who, in September of 2004, banded together in a tiny windowless room in Brooklyn, NY in hopes of creating a sound that captured the best of their shared musical ideals. Armed with only their songwriting skills, their respective instruments and PBRs from the vending machine down the hall, they combined melodic vocals, up-beat drum and bass rhythms and dual guitar hooks to create their own blend of rock and roll. It’s a sound that brings to mind the melding of brit-pop, punk, post-punk and surf rock, reggae, 60's rock and the occasional trip hop inspired drum beat. With sing along choruses and accessible, edgy and energetic music, The Walkup create the kind of songs you can't help but tap your foot to.

The Rock: Valeze (9:45 pm)
From Brooklyn-NY, Valeze doesn't wait for the after-party to get down! Described by The Village Voice as "Dance-punk revivalists with a sassy female lead" and Womanrock as "theatrical and pretty damn sexy"! Led by the cunning, flirtatious, classically-trained Tiffany Randol, Valeze Live is a whirlwind of melodically crashing songs that explode from the stage with an abundant energy that is symbiotically shared by its audience. Tiff may be the focal point, but the Valeze experience wouldn't be complete without the infectious energy of Alan Chaput (guitar), Joe H (bass), and Miles Kennedy (drums). Usually decked out in fab themes, they enjoy mixing in as much glamour and entertainment to the show as possible! Valeze has jumped to the top of the NYC scene using their wild Circus Party to creatively launch them from just another band to one of the most well-reputed bands in NY, known for their lively show, catchy songs, great audiences, and the party that follows! They have not only developed a strong regional fanbase, but have toured colleges and venues across the US, secured sponsorships by Panasonic, Amp Energy, Mountain Dew, and Garnier Fructis/Loreal and worked with a number of celebrated artists. Recently they finished their first full-length album with producer Chris Goercke (Pink, Kelly Osbourne, Ric O'Casek, Rick Wake), David Shackney (Peter Cizzo, Toby Lightman) and Pete Keppler (Bowie, Cheap Trick) as well a hot new Music Video for their Stooges "Search and Destroy" cover!

The Rock: Like Yesterday (10:30 pm)
Like Yesterday emerges from the New York City indie rock scene with unique vocals and a guitar-driven soundscape. The band recently completed the North-East leg of Taking Back Sunday's Fall 2004 tour, and more recently played sold-out shows with The Used, My Chemical Romace, Coheed and Cambria, Midtown and Starting line which solidified Like Yesterday's strong and growing fan base. Like Yesterday has also completed their first EP with Producer/Engineer Paul Mahajan (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio, The Liars) and Producer Jamie Siegel (Lauryn Hill, Smashing Pumpkins, Del Amitri, The Movie Life) and went on to record a mini-album set to be released in May 2005 under Brian Malouf's Columbia imprint label Bandha Records. Mark Holmes (vocals), Dave Holmes (guitar), and Joe Tomino (drums), were working on putting a band together when they encountered the strong songwriting of newcomer, Seva Granik (guitar). As Mark Holmes explains, "I had been looking to put something like this together but didn't know where to start until I met Seva. He had these great songs without any lyrics--I instantly knew he was someone I wanted to work with." Granik's songwriting talent comes together perfectly with lead singer Mark Holmes' piercing, and emotional vocals and the versatility and technical prowess of Joe Tomino and Dave Holmes. Like Yesterday’s music is driven by emotion and provokes a visceral response from listeners. Granik emphasizes, "I want people to understand that we live this music." It is their honesty, both bitter and sweet, that connects the band to their audience. Mark Holmes explains, "This band is about having the courage to deal with life's most vulnerable moments, and then to actually share those experiences in an intimate way with our audience." Like Yesterday hits their mark drawing in listeners with passion that is unadulterated and genuinely inspiring.

the Rock: Taxpayer (11:15 pm)
The gentlemen of Taxpayer have influences ranging from the D.C. sound of Fugazi and Hoover mixed with the melodies and rhythm of Sunny Day Real Estate and Built To Spill. They are gaining momentum with their single "Cut It Again" which gets radio play on Boston's FNX and are opening for several national acts including The Jimmy Chamberlain Complex and The Album Leaf. Taxpayer is currently recording a full length with Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies, Hole) which is due out this fall.

Tonight! Added bonus... Special secret short set from Scotland's Train!
