Tuesdays at Arshile - with DJ Alex English!

Tonight at Arshile DJ Alex English will be spinning rock, 80's and electro for your listening pleasure! If you've ever been to Girls and Boys, Broadcast, or any of the many other parties he and his disciples have invigorated around the city, you know you are in for musical experience.

Arshile is at 166 First Avenue @ 10th Street. It's close to Union Square inthe East Village.... We'll have $6 Fris Vodka mixed drink specials all night, and $5 import beer specials!

Arshile is the revamped, updated, and improved lounge in the space where Izzybar used to be... the two DJ booths (one upstairs, one down in the VIP room) have an awesome sound, but that's where the similarity ends... Arshile is an all top shelf liquor, upscale space frequented by the Page Sixers on the weekends, and is filled with celebs and models...

It's the perfect for a nice Tuesday cocktail, and we've got great DJs in case one cocktail turns into many.... With couches and candles, beautiful martinis, and cutting edge sounds, you can come for a cocktail with friends or get a bottle at your table and listen to the DJs all night. No cover, no hassles (just say you're with the Underbelly party...) See you for a drink at 8 pm - the DJ starts at 9 pm... (If you'd like to bring a party or reserve a table, let me know...)

Next month we've got special parties every week, with guest DJ's, film premiere specials, and other madness.... be there!

New York Underbelly presents...
====================================================================

Between (a Rock and a Hard Place)
ROCK Showcase @ the Slipper Room
(corner of Stanton and Orchard)
Doors open at 8 pm for the show on May 22nd, 2003.

An evening of rock... three live bands with a DJ keeping it going
late...

Featured performances:

8:30 pm the Fellow Project
9:30 pm Teenage Prayers
10:30 pm Kristin Mueller and her band

Followed by DJ Mnemonic and dancing 'til the wee hours....

What is Between a Rock and a Hard Place? This rock showcase at the
Slipper Room features great bands, hand-picked at the peak of
freshness, organically grown, and delivered to you.

All you have to do is:
Invite your friends
Dress like a rock star
Drink too much.

The Rock: the Fellow Project (8:30 pm)
The Fellow Project's eclectic sound features a variety of unusual
instruments... this young trio has punk rock roots, but chooses a
different direction for this incarnation. Their energy shows
through in their songs. Mandolin, anyone? And banjo, and flute...
These guys have more instruments than members!

The Rock: Teenage Prayers (9:30 pm)
The Teenage Prayers have played both solo and together at
Between...and have a bluesy, rootsy rock sound (and a
tongue-in-cheek senses of humor) that is both talented and
entertaining... Lead Prayer Tim and the band will show you the
wages of sin through their music, and we're not sure which side
they'll come down on... As the Village Voice said, "...smart and
mellow Teenage Prayers busts Velvets-y indie folk songs about 'Sad
Girls'..." Yeah, we don't know what that means either, but they
still sound really good.

The Rock: Kristin Mueller and her band (10:30 pm)
Kristin Mueller has been busy. In addition to her fantastic,
melodic solo material, where her guitar work and vocals lend
comparisons to the Cowboy Junkies, she's had one of her songs appear
in the Sundance and Tribeca Film Festival film, "What Alice Found."
That's in addition to her drumming duties in Hidden Driveways and
Gloria Deluxe, and doing the sound boards at Between... She's
closing out the evening with a thoughtful walk through her personal
material, and we're very excited to get her out from behind the
sound board and drums and into the lights!

An evening of rock... three live bands with DJ Mako keeping it going
late...

Featured performances:

8:30 pm Grid Iron
9:30 pm the Jade Monkey
10:30 pm 10 Heads High

Followed by DJ Mako and dancing 'til the wee hours....

The Rock: Grid Iron (8:30 pm)
Grid Iron is a bunch of young punks. They're playing a pretty
intelligent sound for a new band, and while there's not yet an album
to by, by the end of their set you'll be wanting one. Bryce, Mike
and Adam recorded a few songs for a demo... we're looking forward to
hearing the rest!

The Rock: the Jade Monkey (9:30 pm)
When a band forms in the line for a Green Day concert, you expect a
punk sound, but Luis Sanchez' vocals and the lyrics of songs such as
"Plutocracy" send much more of a "Rage Against the Machine" vibe
your way. With an energetic live performance and new tunes for you,
Between... is glad to welcome back the Jade Monkey.

The Rock: 10 Heads High (10:30 pm)
They're opening for Cheap Trick this summer! 10 Heads High won a
battle of the bands recently... against some stiff competition.
With guitar-laden rock that one reviewer described as
'radio-friendly', you'll swear you've heard these guys on the
soundtrack of a movie somewhere. Not yet...

An evening of rock... two live bands with DJ Vendetta keeping it
going late...

Featured performances:
8:30 pm Bona Roba
9:30 pm Strangeway

Followed by DJ Vendetta and dancing 'til the wee hours....

At 11 pm, we're turning the night over to the cast and crew of the
movie - "What Alice Found" - debuting at the Tribeca Film Festival. You can stay and congratulate the cast and other celebs... but after
11 pm, admission will be on a space available basis, so get there
early!

All you have to do is:
Invite your friends
Dress like a rock star
Drink too much.

The details:

The Rock: Bona Roba (8:30 pm)
Bona Roba denies that they were stolen from their real parents, the
Rolling Stones, and raised by wolves in the East Village, where they
were forced to join a band and play for food. Coming off a
month-long residency at a gritty East Village rock venue, the boys
have some explaining to do, because that's what it sounds like. (In
a GOOD way...) Between... welcomes back Bona Roba to civilized
surroundings, where their energetic and guitar-laden garage sound
will be appreciated by conscious fans. These guys are rock and
rollers.

The Rock: Strangeway (9:30 pm) - CD Release!
The boys from Pittsburgh are back in New York City in a return to
the Slipper Room. This time, they're celebrating the release of
their new CD - get 'em while their hot! The band will be playing
cuts off the album for your listening pleasure, and Walter has been
known to throw in a Social Distortion tune to mix it up... It's the
story of his life. Strangeway merchandise does not yet include
plush toys and bobble-head dolls.

Afterparty: "What Alice Found" - click for info and tix!
Boru Vodka and New York Underbelly congratulates the cast and crew!
Written and directed by A. Dean Bell, and featuring wonderfully rich
performances by veteran Judith Ivey and newcomer Emily Grace, "What
Alice Found" won the Special Jury Prize "for artistic merit and
emotional truth" at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, and is playing
in New York City for the first time at our own Tribeca Film
Festival.

"Alice hits the road to escape her mundane existence as a cashier.
Sandra and Bill, two RV-bound retirees, come to her rescue and take
her in after her car breaks down. Once aboard, Alice's destiny
becomes intermingled with the couple in ways that continually
subvert our notions of relationships and identity." - online guide,
Tribeca Film Festival
